“The Nuke Next Door” explores the suspected link between childhood cancers and proximity to nuclear power plants, focusing on Ty-Michael Schmidt who developed cancer living near one in Florida. Despite health officials denying a cancer cluster, a study from the Radiation and Public Health Project suggests otherwise, showing a significant increase in childhood cancers in areas close to reactors. Controversially, Strontium 90 levels were found elevated in affected children, raising community concern and leading to legal actions and further advocacy for precautionary measures against low-level radiation exposure.
